We’re also sharing what New Richmond drivers need to know about caring for their vehicle between appointments, like how to jump-start your vehicle.

How Do I Jump Start My Car?

Your car may need a jump for many reasons, like a bad battery or a small power drain, which is why it’s important to know how to jump a car. Here are a few simple steps you can take to get your Ford vehicle running again.

o   Prepare Your Vehicles: Park the car with the dead battery close to the car that will be jumping it and open both hoods. Find the batteries and unwind the cables for easy access.

o   Attach Cables: You’ll want to attach the cables red, red, black, black. The red cables are positive charges. Begin by attaching the red clamp to the positive battery port on the car with the dead battery, then the red clamp to the jumper car. Attach the negative-charge black cable to the negative port of the jumper car and then ground it on an unpainted metal surface on the car with the dead battery.

o   Start the Vehicle: Depending on how low the battery is or how long the car has been without any charge, you’ll want to run the batteries for longer, to achieve a reliable charge. Try turning over the dead car, and run the vehicle for a few more minutes if needed.

o   Remove the Cables: Take the cables off in reverse order from how you attached them.

o   Run the Vehicle: You want to run your vehicle for some time after jumping it, to ensure the alternator is working properly and the battery is charging.
